European Programs at the 3rd Gymnasium of Heraklion
The 3rd Gymnasium of Heraklion has a long and active involvement in European educational programmes, reflecting our deep commitment to international cooperation, intercultural dialogue and educational innovation. Over the years, our participation in these programmes has transformed our school into an outward-looking learning community with strong ties to partner schools across Europe.
Comenius Programme
Our European journey began with the Comenius Programme, the predecessor of Erasmus+, which supported school partnerships and teacher mobility across Europe. Through Comenius, our school developed its first transnational collaborations, laying the foundations for the European culture and ethos that characterise our school community to this day. Teachers and students had the opportunity to connect with peers from other European countries, exchange educational practices and explore different cultures and perspectives.
Erasmus+ Programme
The Erasmus+ Programme is the European Union’s flagship programme for education, training, youth and sport. It supports mobility, cooperation and innovation across all sectors of education and aims to strengthen the European dimension in teaching and learning.
The 3rd Gymnasium of Heraklion has been actively participating in Erasmus+ since its early years, building on the experience gained through Comenius. Our school has been awarded the Erasmus Accreditation for the period February 2022 to December 2027, a recognition of our long-term commitment to high-quality European cooperation and our capacity to implement mobility projects in a sustained and impactful way.
Thanks to this accreditation, our school implements consecutive Erasmus+ action plans, enabling us to carry out a wide range of mobility and cooperation activities every school year.

🔹 Climademy Programme
The 3rd Gymnasium of Heraklion also participates in Climademy, an innovative European educational initiative dedicated to climate change awareness. Through Climademy, our students explore the causes, consequences and solutions related to climate change, developing environmental literacy and a sense of global responsibility. This programme complements our Erasmus+ activities and reinforces our school’s commitment to Education for Sustainable Development.

Our school actively uses the eTwinning platform, the largest network for schools in Europe, to connect with partner schools, develop collaborative digital projects and share good practices. eTwinning complements our Erasmus+ activities and extends our European network beyond formal mobility programmes.
